FUMIO AKIYAMA has started his career as a designer at ISSEY MIYAKE Co.,Ltd as soon as he graduated from SETSU MODE SEMINAR.
After working for ISSEY MIYAKE for nearly 20 years, he became independent in 1996.
He founded A.WORK STUDIO.,LTD in 1997 and has started to make a contract with several apparel makers such as SANYO SHOKAI Co.,Ltd to offer his design know-how.
He launched his own brand ladies brand 'FUMIO' in 2003 and made its debut at TOKYO COLLECTION 2004SS.
Since then he has showcased his collection at Tokyo collection and now Japan Fashion Week. At the same time, he has been invited to some FASHION WEEK in abroad such as KL FASHION WEEK in Malaysia, GUANGDONG FASHION WEEK in China?
He started to showcase his collection at ATMOSPHERE in Paris in October 2006.
His creation which is characterized by elaborate cuts and fabulous original fabric all made in Japan was highly admired by European buyers and journalists and he has been expanding his business to overseas.
In 2009, he made a contract with TMG Co.,Ltd in Vietnam to work as a chief director for its new ladies brand 'Aino Sofia'.
